On a learning curve going by the ballot I filled out at fellow blogger Bina’s Oscar Party, I got 17/24 categories right. Did shockingly worse on majors than I usually do (kept my screenplay upset predictions and not Viola) while doing considerably better on my techs than my last predictions post indicated (including Hugo for Cinematography and Sound Mixing, Artist for Costume, and all three...

in Awards news
The Artist swept the BAFTAs, Adele swept the Grammys, Tree of Life won the ASC thus making Emmanuel Lubezki sweep every major award he was nominated for this year. Not undeserved between any of them, but yaaaaawwwnnnn.
At least Jean Dujardin’s Oscar is more secured. I partly just want him to win because I’ve been saying he’d win since, like, the start of the season when...

My predictions report card in major categories: 36/44. Not bad! Better than a lot of major pundits, anyways! Like calling Von Sydow to make it in over Albert Brooks, Démian Bichir in Lead Actor, things like that helped. I faltered with a lot of tech categories which brings my overall average down a bit with 72/104 (some painful 0/5s with Original Song and Sound Editing, yikes). At least I said...

International Cinephile Society (ICS) Awards
Has a more perfect lineup for Lead Actor been decided this year? Not even close. As far as I can tell, A Separation leads with 10 nominations.
PICTURE • Certified Copy • Drive • Hugo • Margaret • Meek’s Cutoff • Melancholia • Mysteries of Lisbon • A Separation • The Tree of Life • Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives • Weekend DIRECTOR • Asghar Farhadi - A Separation •...
Anonymous asked: Your predictions look pretty good. I'm curious about your take on why you don't have any films overlapping both SOUND MIXING and SOUND EDITING. It's been 15 years since this has happened and part of seems to be due to the fact they considered far more standard action films like "The Rock", "Con Air", "Face/Off", etc. in the 90s then they do now. Even...
